Whether privacy is legally mandated (as with HIPAA), governed by institutional, state, or federal records schedules, or applied per local practice, all repositories maintain records that pose challenges to access. Drawing on the experiences of two archivists who manage the grant-funded processing of public health collections, and in partnership with two historians who are experienced in the use of patient records, the speakers address the barriers to researcher use of health information and propose researcher-driven solutions.
